111 Years of Independence

I know this post should have been published 24 hours and 54 minutes ago but I really don’t have any inspiration on what to write for our Independence day. I’ve been thinking about this a week before but I can’t think of anything special to write about. I guess I haven’t been that proud of being a Filipino in the first place.

What I thought of instead is to post this video which I found really inspiring and makes you proud of being a Filipino. This video, by the way, is TFC’s 15th year station ID. The song is entitled “Dahil Tayo’y Filipino” performed by Charice Pempengco and Billy Crawford.

Here’s the lyrics of the said song with its English translation. English translation by Charified.

Dahil Tayo’y Filipino (Because We Are Filipinos)

Ang minimithing pangarap hangarin mong makamtan,
Sa Amerika, Asya, Australia, Canada, Europa, Japan.
Anumang pagsubok, haharapin, hanggang Gitnang Silangan.
Oh dakila ka, Filipino, aking kababayan!

The most cherished dream that you wished will be achieved,
In America, Asia, Australia, Canada, Europe, Japan.
Whatever challenges, we will face, even in the Middle East.
Oh you are great, Filipinos, my countrymen!

Marami man ang dumaang hadlang na dala ng panahon.
Madapa ka man o masugatan. Ikaw ay babangon.
Tibayan ang iyong loob, harapin ang mga hamon.
Tayo ay Filipino. Nakatindig pa rin hanggang ngayon.

Obstacles may come your way that were brought by circumstances.
You may fall or get wounded. You will rise.
Be strong and face all the challenges.
We are Filipinos! We are still standing even until now.

Filipino, Filipino. Tayo ay Filipino!
Filipino, Filipino. Tayo ay Filipino!
Kahit saan mang dako isigaw natin sa mundo,
kaya natin ‘to, dahil tayo’y Filipino!

Filipino, Filipino. We are Filipinos!
Filipino, Filipino We are Filipinos!
No matter where we are, let’s shout to the world,
We can do it, because we are Filipinos!

Ipakita mo ang ‘yong galing at talino mong taglay.
Pananalig at dangal sa sarili sa Maykapal ialay.
Tunay na ipagmamalaki ang nakamit mong tagumpay.
At sa iyong pagbabalik, isang pagbating Mabuhay!

Show your skills and intelligence.
Faith and dignity for one’s self to Him you offer.
Be proud of all your achievements.
And on your homecoming we will welcome you, Mabuhay!

Don’t stop my friends from moving up and dreaming.
You are not alone in your journey, no matter how far you go.
From then on until now, you will never be alone, Filipino.
Together we will celebrate your every success ardently!

Filipino, Filipino. Tayo ay Filipino!
Filipino, Filipino. Tayo ay Filipino!
Filipino, Filipino. Tayo ay Filipino!
Filipino, Filipino. Tayo ay Filipino!
Kahit saan mang dako isigaw natin sa mundo,
Kayang-kaya ko! Kayang-kaya ko!
Kaya natin ‘to! Dahil tayo’y Filipino!

Filipino, Filipino. We are Filipinos!
Filipino, Filipino. We are Filipinos!
Filipino, Filipino. We are Filipinos!
Filipino, Filipino. We are Filipinos!
No matter where we are, let’s shout to the world,
I can do it! I can do it!
We can all do it! Because we are Filipinos!

And yeah, while searching for something to post about the Philippine Independence Day, I found this site–Balikbayan The Asian Journal Magazine. Balikbayan was launched last March 2009.
